Margaret T. Roe, 90, passed away on December 30, 2010, in Jacksonville, Florida, where she lived for 13 years. A memorial service will be held in Taylorville at the Evangelical Free Church on Friday, March 19, with visitation before and after the 2PM service. Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
Margaret Teague was born in Ashville, Alabama on August 10, 1919, to Edward B. and Bernice Braden Teague. She graduated from Ashville High, and attended the University of Alabama. She married Kermit Roe from Pennsylvania in 1942, and soon after moved to California where Kermit served in the Army. They returned to Alabama before moving to Illinois in 1947.
In 1957, the Roes came to Taylorville where he became the Christian County Agricultural Extension Advisor for many years, and she was a 4-H leader. They were co-founders and members of the Evangelical Free Church in 1968, where she also taught Sunday School. Mrs. Roe was very active in Child Evangelism Fellowship and Christian Women's Club, which she helped start, teaching Good News clubs and Friendship Bible Coffees in homes in the community. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, playing the piano, swimming, reading the Bible, traveling, camping, fishing, and the company of many friends, of whom she made many over the years.
After living in Taylorville 37 years, Margaret moved to Washington State to be near her daughter and family, and when they were transferred, she moved to Florida in 1997. She was a devoted wife, mother, teacher, mentor, and friend, and loved the Lord, walking closely with Him, as was exemplified by her life.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Kermit, her parents, and siblings. She is survived by a son, Dr. David Roe (Nan), Marion, IN, and daughter Peggy (Steve) Williams, Jacksonville, FL, six grandchildren, Brad, Erik, and Virginia Roe, and Barbara, Scott and Lisa Williams, 2 great grandsons, 2 nephews, and several cousins.
