Maria Edna Imburgia Fesler, born April 14, 1912, passed away on February 4, 2010 surrounded by her son and the loving, dedicated staff of Life Care Center on Lenoir Avenue. Marie was the child of Maria Agnes Guttaudara and John Imburgia who both emigrated from Sicily in the early days of the 20th century. They came to America separately, met, fell in love, married and raised their children in their new country. Marie grew up in Brooklyn, New York and witnessed such events as the Spanish Flu Epidemic, the Depression and World War II. She was a spot welder during the war years, serving her country on the home front while her husband served in the US Navy. She married Douglas C. Fesler and moved from San Diego, California to the Panama Canal Zone and finally settled in Jacksonville, Florida where she lived out her years. Marie was a charter member of the Fleet Reserve 126 Women’s Auxiliary. She was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Italian-American Club and enjoyed the many activities and groups associated with both special organizations. Marie is preceded in death by her husband Douglas Fesler, her son Edward J. Fesler, her brothers and sisters Grace, Joseph, Angelina, Frank and Josephine, her niece Johanna Guzowski and her nephew John Imburgia. She is survived by her son Cecil R Fesler, her brother John Imburgin, her nephews Jim Imburgia, John and Frank Alles, her nieces Monica Weeks and Agnes Stryker, her granddaughters Aida Wilson and Nettie Wiggins-Fesler, her great grandson, Furio Francis Gerwitz and many more unnamed but very much loved relatives. A memorial service will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 5752 Blanding Blvd. on Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Life Care Center of Jacksonville, 4813 Lenoir Avenue, Jacksonville, FL 32216.
