Alfredo “Fred” R. Oca, Sr. of Jacksonville, Florida passed away peacefully on July 4th, 2025.
Born to Rustico and Esperanza Oca on August 12th, 1942, in Victoria, Philippines, he graduated from The University of Eastern Philippines, Michigan State University, and Michigan University. He worked at St Vincent's Medical Center in Riverside for 57 years specializing in bone marrow analysis.
Fred was married to Phyllis Freeman for over 50 years. He attended Lakeshore Baptist, and was an avid volunteer for the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, American Heart Association, and the Bone Marrow and Cancer Foundation.
He enjoyed being a professional tennis player, USTA umpire, tennis instructor, and flight instructor. He also enjoyed piloting, sewing, cooking, and gardening.
Fred will be remembered as a follower of Christ who served the Lord to serve others. He was a man of few words who displayed his love and kindness with actions.
Fred is preceded in death by his father Rustico Oca, mother Esperanza Oca, brother Glor Oca, and wife Phyllis Oca.
He is survived by sons Alfredo “Freddie” Oca Jr (Jennifer), Russell “Rusty” Oca (Amy) & daughter Lesley Buchanan (JJ), grandsons Landen Oca, Gabriel Oca, Ashton Wright & Ethan White, granddaughters, Kailee Oca, Kenzi Oca, Bekah Paul, Chloe Harper, Caitlin Harper, Chelsea Harper, Marissa Wright & Gwen Buchanan, and 6 great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held on August 6th, 2025, at 11:00 am at Lake Shore Baptist Church with Pastor Chas Rowland officiating.
In celebration of his life, his favorite style of clothing was floral printed clothing. Please feel free to join us wearing his favorite style of attire.
