Carolyn June
DeMent
September 13, 1937 — October 21, 2026
Saint Johns
Carolyn June DeMent died October 21, 2026, in Saint Johns, Florida after a prolonged journey with Alzheimer’s.
Born to Lester Cooper and Mary Ruth (Belk) Cooper on September 13, 1937, in Greene County, Arkansas, she grew up on her parents' farm, chopping and picking cotton, and helping with her father's dairy cows.
Carolyn graduated as Valedictorian of her class at Stanford High School, where she was captain of the basketball team.
She married Raymond V. DeMent in 1957 and was married 52 years until Raymond’s death in 2010. She was a mother and homemaker, supporting Raymond’s career with Phillips Petroleum. Their corporate transfers took them from California, to Wyoming, to Kansas, to Louisiana, to Texas, to Calgary, Canada, to Bartlesville Oklahoma, and finally to Jacksonville, Florida in 2006 to be closer to their daughter, Penny.
Carolyn was an avid fan of the LA Lakers and loved following most sports. She made long and fast friends everywhere she lived, always remembering birthdays and graduations. She was active in the United Methodist Churches wherever she lived. She was fiercely proud of her daughter and granddaughter, Laura.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Raymond, sister Brenda (Cooper) McCall, and brother Jimmy Cooper.
She is survived by daughter, Penny (DeMent) Levy, son-in-law Alex Levy, and granddaughter Dr. Laura Levy.
