Charles grew up in St. Louis and in and around Newburg, MO where many of his extended family lived. He was a graduate of O’Fallon Technical School, where he studied Electrical Trade. As a young adult he was involved in the Northwest Rescue Squad in St. Louis County. In the early 1970s he moved to Jacksonville, FL where he remained until his death.

Charles managed Club Jacksonville for over 40 years, where he put his “jack of all trades” skills to work. He was active in the LGBTQ+ community, helping to organize events and social activities. He was instrumental in helping to organize the first Gay Pride Picnic in Willowbranch Park, Jacksonville, FL. Charles was known for always being there to help in his community, making donations, helping to raise funds and awareness. He’d give the shirt off his back to anyone who needed a hand or a lift up. He was instrumental in raising funds for those in need of housing or medical equipment. Charles was involved in supporting the PFlag Scholarship Chapter in Jacksonville since it began in the 1990’s, he also helped raise funds for scholarships. Charles received a Humanitarian Award in 2015 and had previously been awarded a Gay Businessman of the Year award.

He had a love for photography and was rarely seen without a camera in hand or around his neck, especially at family gatherings. Charles also loved genealogy, and doing the research, at one point he had a very active family genealogy website.

Charles will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved and knew him. He will be missed.

To honor Charles’ giving heart and passion for his community, donations can be made in Charles’ name to the PFlag Scholarship fund
