Charles N. “Charlie” Scott, 88, of St. Augustine, Florida, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 2nd.
Born in Marion, Virginia, Charlie earned his Bachelor of Science in Metallurgical Engineering from Virginia Tech in 1962 and was a dedicated Hokies fan. He built a distinguished 30-year career with Norfolk Southern Railroad, where he rose to become Director of the Research and Test Department. He also served as Chairman of The Association of American Railroads from 1985 to 1987 and again from 1991 to 1993.
Charlie received a life-saving liver transplant at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center on June 10, 1990, which gave him many more years to enjoy life with his family and friends.
He married his beloved wife, Joyce Scott, 66 years ago, and together they built a life filled with love, adventure and faith. Charlie actively served at St. James United Methodist Church in Palatka, and most recently was a member of Anastasia Baptist Church in St. Augustine, Florida.
Charlie loved engineering, Washington Redskins and Virginia Tech football, boating, dogs, RV travel, and time spent with his children and grandchildren. Family and friends will remember him for his sharp mind, kind spirit, and his famous crab feasts that brought everyone together.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and his eldest son, Stanley N. Scott. He is survived by his loving wife Joyce; his children, Chris (Jill) and Mike (Kristie); his grandchildren, Kyle, Alyssa, Lauren, Ian (Brianna), Hannah, and Connor; his great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Nathan; a daughter in law, Yvonne and a loving circle of extended family and friends who cherished him.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Sunday, December 7th at 2:00 PM at Anastasia Baptist Church with Pastor Walter West officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Thomas E. Starzl Transplantation Institute at UPMC in honor of Charles “Charlie” Scott.
