St. Augustine

Eugene “Gene” Joseph Anania, 67, of St. Augustine, Florida (formerly of West Haven, CT), passed away on April 15, 2025, after a life lived large. Born in Rome, Italy to Giuseppe Anania and Carmela Tambone Anania on July 12, 1957, he immigrated to the U.S. at the age of 6 with his parents to New Haven, CT then moved to West Haven, CT where he attended West Haven High School. From a very early age his true passion was auto mechanics. There was no car he could not fix or engine he could not rebuild. He loved to ride motorcycles and he lived fast. Being near the ocean was always a priority. His hobbies included spending time with family doing activities like camping, kayaking, fishing, and walking in nature.

He worked at Connecticut Limo for a number of years before moving to Florida where he proudly earned his CDL and continued to drive various kinds of trucks from box trucks to cement mixers and dump trucks. He retired as a professional Class A driver for a trucking company.

Gene was preceded in death by his loving parents Giuseppe and Carmela Anania, as well as many other relatives and friends. He is survived by his cherished sons, his eldest Joseph Lawrence Anania and his Mom Paula Rose Anania of St. Augustine, FL, also his youngest son Anthony Steven Anania and his Mom Wendy Sue Reed, as well as Anthony's life partner Imelda Blanco of Jacksonville, FL. He was the proud grandfather of Madison and Jason Anania. Gene also leaves behind his first cousins Molly Anania Gianfredi (Vincent) of Mytle Beach, SC and Claudio Anania (Judy) of West Haven, CT in addition to many 2nd and 3rd cousins.

Gene left us unexpectedly with unforgettable memories and stories to talk about for generations to come. The celebration of Gene's life will be privately held at his home in St. Augustine, FL on June 8th, 2025, from 2-6pm.
