Gary
Causey
September 13, 1955 – April 20, 2026
Gary Causey passed peacefully on April 20th, surrounded by love, leaving behind a legacy of service, devotion to family, and a life well lived.
Gary was born and raised in Pierson, Florida where he was known as an exceptional student and a talented baseball player. He carried that same discipline, intelligence, and steady determination throughout his life.
Gary married the love of his life, Stephanie, and together they shared 49 years of marriage built on commitment, partnership, and love. They were blessed with their beautiful daughter, Jennifer, who remained a source of great pride and joy throughout his life.
Gary graduated from the University of Central Florida and began his career with the City of Jacksonville in housing and urban development. He later joined the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), where he served with distinction in Community Planning and Development. Over a remarkable career, Gary rose from Program Manager to Director of the Jacksonville Office. He was widely respected for his knowledge, leadership, and unwavering commitment to helping cities and communities throughout Florida secure resources and build programs that improved the lives of countless citizens through housing, neighborhood revitalization, homelessness assistance, and community development initiatives.
Outside of work, Gary remained active and competitive throughout his life. He loved baseball and played city league baseball for many years before going on to play and coach softball for decades. He was also an avid and accomplished racquetball player, enjoying the sport and competition for many years.
Gary was a genuine, kind, and wonderful man with a sharp wit and a warm sense of humor. Though quiet by nature, he brought laughter to those around him, and no one could make him laugh harder than his beloved wife, Stephanie. He was always there for the people he loved and touched many lives through both his work and his personal relationships.
Gary will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for the lasting impact he made on his family, friends, colleagues, and community.
Gary is survived by his loving wife, Stephanie Causey; his cherished daughter, Jennifer Gates, son-in-law, Jeff Gates, his Sister Tanya Stiffler, brother-in-law Todd Stiffler, niece Madison Stiffler, and beloved Grand-cats.
His memory will live on in the many lives he helped shape and in the love of those who knew him.
