George Edward Taylor passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2026.
He was born in Philadelphia, PA on May 28, 1935. He grew up in the Germantown neighborhood.
When he was 15 years old, he and his family moved to Penns Grove, New Jersey; there he met and fell in love with a shy, pretty girl named Edith Harcum. They dated throughout high school and were married on September 3, 1955. They celebrated 65 years together on September 3, 2020; sadly, Edith passed away 13 days later.
George was a loving son, devoted husband, an amazing father, and a doting grandfather. He was friend to many and never met a stranger. He was always quick to offer a listening ear and sage advice.
He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1952 to 1956, aboard the USS Salamonie AO.
He was an avid baseball fan and was an expert on the rules of the game. He played ball as a catcher and later coached his sons’ teams. One of his favorite activities was playing “plastic ball” in the backyard, first with his children and later with his grandchildren.
George is survived by his son, Christopher J. Taylor, his daughter, Beth T. Randall (Thayne), grandson Brendan King, granddaughters Audrey Palomares (Andy), Paige King (Jonathan), and Emily Emas (Aaron). He is also survived by his bonus grandchildren, Crystal Randall (Kimberly), Megan Lopez (Brian), and Drew Randall (Josh), and bonus great-grandchildren, Tim, Bella, Jaydon, Taliah, and Elias.
George was preceded in death by his son, LCDR Keith E. Taylor who was killed in Iraq on January 29, 2005. He was very proud of Keith’s service and his sacrifice.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice or to First Coast Honor Flight.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Moloney-Hewell Funeral Home.
