James Robert McGoogan passed away October 9, 2026. He was born in Buffalo, NY on February 17, 1948 to Robert and Eleanor McGoogan. He shared his childhood with his sister Eileen (Buehler) who preceded him in death.

Jim was an excellent student and attended Canisus College. He met his future wife, Elizabeth Bona at a Halloween party. They were married on May 29, 1971. He proudly served in the US army as a Lieutenant and was stationed in Panama as a finance officer. Jim worked as an accountant in Buffalo but spent most of his career in Wellsville, NY as the accountant and financial executive for Bradley Resources Company and Family. Jim and Betsy had 2 daughters, Alicia and Katherine. Jim was a loving and involved husband, father, and friend. He was a devout Catholic and always and active singer in the church choirs.

The McGoogan family moved to Stuart Florida in 1991, exchanging the snow and cold for a life that provided Jim yearlong boating, landscaping, and a new hobby of growing orchids. Jim was a proud father-in-law to Katie’s husband, Timothy Berryhill, and they formed a solid relationship with talk of family, the military, finances, and sports.

Jim was blessed with 5 grandchildren. He was a strong and dedicated influence on Gavin, Alex, Arianna, Eli, and Maria Elise. Until his very last day, his face lit up when one of them walked into the room. Jim and Betsy spent their last few years in Jacksonville, close to family. Jim was steadfast in his love and care for his family until the day he died.

In lieu of flowers, the family would be honored by a donation to Holy Family Catholic School music department, in James’ name.
