John Alfred Owens, 78, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 10, 2025.
Born in Annapolis, Maryland, John was the beloved son of William Thomas Owens and Audrey LeMay Owens. He pursued higher education at Daytona Beach Community College and the Florida Institute of Technology, where he laid the foundation for a successful career in information technology and project management. Over the years, he contributed his talents to organizations such as Computer Power, BankBoston, and Homeside Lending.
John’s life was marked by a deep and abiding faith. On December 7, 2008, he was ordained as an Episcopal minister after completing theological studies through the University of the South. He was especially devoted to prison ministry, where he offered guidance, compassion, and hope to those in need.
On October 19, 1968, John married the love of his life, Ellen Brook Conger, in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. Together, they shared 57 years of marriage, raising a loving family and building a life centered on faith, service, and community.
John was a dedicated parishioner at Church of Our Savior in Jacksonville, where he was actively involved in Chiros and Cursillo ministries. He found great joy in the outdoors, especially fishing and kayaking.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, William Thomas Owens, Jr. John is survived by his devoted wife, Ellen Brook Conger Owens; his children, John E. Owens, Julie Elliott, Brook Medici, and John (JR) Ratti; and eight cherished grandchildren.
A memorial service celebrating John’s life will be held at Church of Our Savior on Friday, June 20th at 11:00 AM.
John’s legacy of faith, love, and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
