He dedicated many years to coaching his children’s football, baseball, and softball teams. Joe worked at Eastern Airlines in Miami, Florida until it closed its doors in 1991 and then he and his wife, Patricia, ran a Merry Maids franchise in Jacksonville.
Joe was preceded in death by his first wife of 44 years, Patricia Wilkinson Ezzell, his sister, Dorothy McDaniel and his brother-in-law, Don Wilkinson. In June 2020 Joe remarried to Evelyn Ezzell.
