Lee V. Fitzgerald, 83, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2020, from lung related illnesses.
Lee was predeceased by her parents, Willie Grimsley Vance and Harry Lee Vance, and sweet granddaughter, Tabitha Wheeler.
She is survived by her dear sister, Ann Vance Ginn, and her four distinctly different but ever-loving daughters, Debbie F. Smith, Donna L. Fitzgerald, Barbara F. Drummond, and Betsy F. Miller, and her 9 grandchildren, Rebecca Smith, Matthew Miller, Caroline Smith, Collin Drummond, Sarah Miller, Conner Drummond, Rachel Miller, Christopher Wheeler, and Cameron Drummond.
Lee was born July 18, 1936, in Columbia, South Carolina and was raised in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She spent many years raising four girls, playing tennis, playing bridge, and helping in many school and community related activities. She loved traveling, entertaining, having her whole family around, and she absolutely loved the beach. She will be remembered for her creativity, cooking skills, hospitality and her infectious laugh.
She raised her girls to be independent women; there will be a hole in our hearts that will be never filled. We will miss you so much, Mom.
Memorial services will be private.
She recited lines from a poem that brought her comfort in her last days;
“To Mary Queen the praise be given!
She sent the gentle sleep from Heaven,
That slid into my soul.”
