Obituary

Lonnie M. Prince, Jr., passed away peacefully on the afternoon of February 12, 2026, surrounded by family at his bedside. In his final moments, prayers were offered by his balae, and words of love and reassurance filled the room as he was gently encouraged to rest and reunite with his beloved wife. Lonnie was born to Lonnie and Georgia Prince in Alexander City, Alabama, and grew up in Charleston, South Carolina. Following high school, he proudly served his country by joining the Marine Reserves before continuing his military career in the United States Navy. Lonnie dedicated more than 20 years of honorable service to the Navy, serving aboard many ships, including the USS Intrepid. Years later, he delighted in visiting the historic vessel—now a museum in New York City—with his grandchildren, sharing stories from his time at sea.

In 1960, while on shore leave in Washington, D.C., Lonnie met the love of his life, Alice, a chance encounter he fondly recalled throughout his life. He cherished his time living in Sicily during his final overseas tour, where he developed a deep appreciation for authentic Italian cuisine and was never shy about expressing his high standards when it came to food—a trait that sparked countless family memories. After retiring from the Navy, Lonnie worked for UPS while completing his college education. Through dedication and perseverance, he advanced into management working in safety and human resources until his retirement. Lonnie loved hiking, traveling, and spending time with his family. He and Alice shared many adventures across the United States, visiting multiple National Parks and creating memories that will be treasured for generations. A man of deep faith, Lonnie attended St. Michael and All Angels Anglican Catholic Church regularly until his health declined, remaining committed to his religious studies and fellowship throughout his life.

Lonnie was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alice Prince, in July 2025. He will be remembered as a humble, steadfast, and loving man whose devotion to his family was unwavering. Though often stubborn, he was a constant source of strength, support, and care, working tirelessly to provide for those he loved. He is survived by his children, grandchildren, and family members who will carry forward his stories, values, and love. Both Lonnie and Alice will be interred at Jacksonville National Cemetery at a future date in 2026, with full military honors.
