In Loving Memory of Lorna Gladys Cotton

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved sister, Lorna Gladys Cotton, age 74, of Jacksonville, Florida, on Wednesday, July 16, 2025. Born to the late Eddie and Catherine Mack Cotton of Jacksonville, Lorna was a woman of extraordinary compassion, intellect, and unwavering love who touched countless lives throughout her remarkable journey.

Lorna was a proud graduate of William M. Raines High School and continued her educational pursuits at Florida A&M University before earning her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Bethune-Cookman University. Her commitment to service led her to enlist in the United States Navy, where she served her country with honor. She later dedicated over twenty years to the United States Postal Service, from which she retired.

Those who knew Lorna will remember her profound appreciation for Black art, her genuine fascination with technology and its evolution, and her multifaceted worldview that enriched every conversation. She remained passionately engaged in political discourse throughout her life and was known for her unwavering commitment to standing up for justice and equality. Her love for learning and her deep sense of social responsibility were hallmarks of her character that inspired all who knew her.

Lorna was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Eddie and Catherine Mack Cotton, and her nephew, Katonia "Tony" Cotton.

Her magnificent legacy of love lives on through those she leaves behind: four devoted siblings, Eddrieka C. Banks (Clarence), Guy B. Cotton (Betty), Reginald J. Cotton, and Share'e C. Daniels (Leonard); her treasured nieces and nephews, Shannon M. Green, Africa Massey (Willie), Ronald Williams, Sheena Sample, Guibriel S. Cotton, Victoria R. Daniels, and Lindsey M. Daniels; her esteemed uncle, Willie "Bubba" Bell; her beloved dachshund Ollie Cotton and a host of other relatives and friends whose lives were forever enriched by her presence.

Lorna's greatest gift was being the family archivist; she preserved catalogs of familial memories in both digital and mental format. She was the voice of wisdom in times of uncertainty, and the source of unconditional support that each family member could always count on. Her generous heart created a foundation of love that will continue to sustain her family for generations to come.
