Mary (Lannen) Wallace, beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother, passed away Saturday, August 16th, 2025 in Jacksonville, Florida, surrounded by her family. She leaves behind her husband of fifty-six years, Vinny; her three children, four grandchildren, three sisters, and many friends and extended family in New York, Florida, and Ireland.
Born and raised in New York, Mary attended St. Benedict’s Grammar School and St. Pius High School, both in the Bronx. She fondly remembered summers spent swimming at the White Cross in Throggs Neck and having fun at Camp Oh-Neh-Tah in the Catskills. Mary raised her own family in Mamaroneck, where she made life long friends during her years volunteering and then working at Rye Neck High School. In the mid 1990’s Mary and Vinny began splitting time between Montauk, NY and Melbourne Beach, Florida; eventually making the Sunshine State their permanent home. In Florida, she enjoyed time with new friends and reconnected with friends from her youth.
Mary had a keen sense of fairness and respect for all people. She loved to travel and explored the United States from coast to coast and around the world, making many trips to visit family in Ireland. She passed this passion for travel on to her children. She cherished her family and friends and enjoyed the New York Times crossword puzzles, Jeopardy, and British mysteries. A generous soul to the end, she was always ready with a warm guest bed, a cup of tea, and a ready ear. She will be remembered for her fabulous laugh. And she will be greatly missed.
Please join us for a Celebration of Life in Mary’s honor at the Wainwright House in Rye, NY on Saturday, October 11th from 1-4pm.
