Patricia Ann “Patty” Chaplin (Root), 59, of Fernandina Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully at her home on September 2, 2026, surrounded by family and friends, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on January 12, 1967, in Batavia, New York.

Patty is survived by her daughter, Elle Vojtech; her son, Christian Andrew Mann; her former husband, Spencer Chaplin; her sisters, Theresa Walker-Keegan (Jason), Jessie Thompson (Roy), Cindy Leach (Lenny), and Marie Rehm (Eugene); her uncles, Richard Sheffield and Jerry Sheffield; her nieces and nephews, George A. Jernigan III, Terald L. Jernigan, Daniel Jernigan, Dane Rehm, Nettie Williamson, Chelsea Root-Giardina, Lenny Leach Jr, Rachel Leach, and Jasmine Walker-Keegan; her cousin, Brenda Garrison; as well as her extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Marie Lynette Chaffee (Sheffield); her father, Harrold Duane Root; her brother, Dennis Amato; her grandparents, George and Marie Sheffield; her nephew, Sergeant Peter Joshua Jernigan; and her former husband, Scott Mann, the father of her son, Christian.

Patty was extremely loving, vibrant, kind, thoughtful, and brave. Her family and friends mattered most to her. She was a loving and dedicated mother, a loyal friend, and a devoted sister. As the youngest of five sisters, the bond she shared with her sisters was one of the most important parts of her life.

What made Patty especially memorable was the way she made others feel special and brought out the best in everyone around her. She was full of life and love and tremendously fun to be around. She had an excellent sense of humor, was quick to make light of herself and life, and was a free-spirited angel with a hint of a rebellious nature. She will be deeply missed for her vibrant spirit, her big heart, the love she so willingly gave.

Patty was most proud of her children and her family. She enjoyed listening to live music, dancing the night away, spending days at the beach, cooking, and sharing time with family and friends.

A public Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at American Legion Post 54.
