Peggy E. Varnes passed away gently at HCA Memorial Hospital on August 4, 2025, from lung cancer.
She began her life on September 19, 1950, born to Cleve V. Varnes and Jennie D. Allen in Folkston, Georgia. Living with her nine siblings in Hilliard, Florida during her childhood, she graduated from West Nassau County High School in 1969. She became a mother in 1977, to a baby girl, Angela Lollar. Peggy eventually moved to Jacksonville, FL to expand her horizons.
While in Jacksonville, Peggy worked as a manager at Independent Life Insurance, which she enjoyed until her firm closed down in the late 1990's. Her last job was at the water department of JEA until her retirement in 2015.
During her life, she enjoyed traveling across the Eastern United States, as far north as New York City, and as far south as the Florida Keys. She climbed lighthouses as she traveled; her favorites were the Key West Lighthouse and the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse.
She also had a love for North Carolina’s Great Smoky Mountains. In the mountains, she’d visit the "Cherokee reservation" to keep in touch with her heritage. She also enjoyed attending church, watching Yankees baseball games, listening to the Eagles, and antiquing miniature hand-woven baskets.
She is remembered as a faithful sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, and great-aunt.
She was preceded in death by her siblings Leslie (1994), Cleveland (1999), Wanda Lee (2009), Dorris (2013), Wesley (2014), Glenda (2015), Mildred (2020), and Ellen (2022).
She is survived by her sister, Sedora Ruth Nobles; her daughter, Angela Perrin; her three grandchildren; her former husband, Craig Lollar; many nieces and nephews; and a large extended family.
