IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Rachel McKenzie
Cook
January 29, 2026
Rachel McKenzie Cook passed away on January 29, 2026. Her husband, Greg, was by her side. Born In Jacksonville Florida to Robert Irving McKenzie and Leona Adele McKenzie, she lived a very interesting, long and wonderful life.
Rachel was an Air Force veteran and a Jones College graduate. She went on to open many businesses including several cosmetology schools, acting as owner and lead instructor. She was passionate about sailing, art, yoga, and playing bridge, keeping her brain and body in great shape. She was a prolific painter, having her talent celebrated in a recent retrospective gallery showing more than 80 oil paintings. Rachel will be remembered fondly as an artist, sailor, entrepreneur, and the author of seven books based on her sailing adventures aboard 'The Rachel' with Captain Cook and her friends.
In her own words, she was the non-conformist with the top-knot and a slow-dry sarcasm whose playful sense of humor protected her heart with a fierce loyalty to those she truly loved. She never followed the crowd, having a distinct taste for the unique. Slowing down, she appreciated the thoughtful details of life with her true love Greg, her husband of fifty years.
Rachel had a special joy for the holidays and loved shopping and giving presents. Decorating her apartment early in the season gave her renewed energy and excitement to gather friends and family together in her home. She was thrilled by singing Christmas carols and dressing up for the occasion. Rachel was the Queen of Halloween and Christmas! We were lucky to share this holiday season together in celebration of all the things she loved.
