It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rena (Wilds) Herndon, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Rena’s presence touched the lives of many. Though words can scarcely capture the depth of sorrow we feel, we honor and celebrate a life marked by kindness, resilience, and grace.
Born January 15, 1947 in Jacksonville, FL to George and Peggie Wilds, Rena is survived by her husband, Tom Herndon; her daughters: Brandi Herndon Peck (Bryan), Sherry Herndon Diedrich, Ginger Herndon Laurie (David); her grandchildren: Savannah Johnson (David), Riley Trudeau (Dustin), Braunson Wettlaufer (Alex), Aiden McFern, Josie Diedrich, and Anneliese Diedrich, and Reese Laurie; her great-grandchildren: Emma Johnson, Logan Wettlaufer, Luca Wettlaufer, and Averi Wettlaufer; her sister Pattie Liddell, and her brother George Wilds; and numerous cousins and friends whose lives were touched by Rena’s warmth and wisdom.
Throughout her life, Rena demonstrated unwavering and fierce dedication to her family and friends. Rena’s smile and kindness warmed countless hearts, and her wisdom guided many through difficult times. Rena was a talented hairdresser and opened her first salon in 1972. She went on to own several more salons and enjoyed continued success in her field for many years. Later in her career, Rena used her experience and knowledge in the industry to become an educator. She was especially proud of her role as a mentor and educator and continued to help and encourage others long after her retirement.
Rena married the love of her life, Tom Herndon, on December 2, 1964, and theirs was a love story for the ages. They remained devoted to each other for over 60 years.
Rena inspired others to seek beauty in every day. Whether through acts of quiet generosity or moments of joyful celebration, Rena’s legacy is woven into the stories of those fortunate enough to have known her.
Rena’s absence leaves a void, yet her memory remains a guiding light. In times of reflection, may we remember the love she shared and the lessons she imparted. Though we mourn, we also give thanks for the time spent together and the indelible mark left on our lives.
The family invites all to join in commemorating her life, cherishing memories, and finding comfort in the company of loved ones. May peace and solace surround all who grieve and may Rena’s legacy continue to inspire kindness and hope for generations to come.
A Day of Remembrance and Fellowship will commence on September 6, 2025, at 2pm at the home of Brandi & Bryan Peck.
