Ross Theo Weeks, 76, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on June 29, 2025.

A proud Jacksonville native, Ross was the youngest of five brothers born to Annie Lee Thomas and Theo Edward Weeks. Growing up in a humble but lively household in the Lackawanna area, he was part of countless memories, tales, and adventures that are still fondly shared among his family and friends.

Ross graduated from Robert E. Lee High School and began his career working in hotel hospitality and at the Jacksonville Motor Vehicle Inspection Station. Answering the call to serve, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he was stationed at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, before serving in Oahu, Hawaii, and Okinawa, Japan.

In 1971, Ross married the love of his life, Mary Katherine “Kathy” Forster, at Lakeshore United Methodist Church. Their 54 years of marriage were a beautiful testament to enduring love, steadfast commitment, and shared communal faith.

After completing his military service at NAS Jacksonville, Ross earned a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology from the University of North Florida. He went on to serve his community with pride and integrity as a member of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. Starting as a Patrolman, Ross worked in several specialized units, with the Robbery Division being his favorite assignment. With dedication to the wellbeing of his fellow officers, Ross helped establish the JSO Wellness Program and was an active member of the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), ultimately serving as both 1st and 2nd Vice Presidents. He also served as an elected member of the Police & Fire Pension Fund Advisory Committee. Over his career, Ross led Robbery Conferences, received numerous certifications and commendations, and assisted with many improvements within the department. He was honored with the Medal of Valor in 1988, which is the highest form of recognition for exceptional bravery and heroism in the line of duty. Detective Ross Weeks retired in 2004, having served his city with integrity, compassion, and strength for nearly 31 years of dedicated service.

Ross was a man of deep faith and abundant love for his family. He cherished his wife Kathy, his sons Todd (Holli) and Ryan (Amber), and found immeasurable joy in being “Papa” to his grandsons Colton, Barrett, and Caleb. Ross also held a special bond with his nephew Joel, lovingly taking on the role of “Otis” after the loss of his beloved brother Edward. He was also the first to guide, mentor, love and protect many others as his own, touching the lives of countless other family and friends he encountered along the way.

Ross never met a stranger and was known for his outgoing personality and genuine kindness. He had a special way of making people feel seen, loved, and valued. Whether it was taking his grandkids, nieces, and nephews to events, having them for beach days and sleepovers, treating them to the Dreamette for his favorite ice cream, or sharing stories in his garage filled with collectibles, Ross lived life with generosity, love, and laughter.

He was an avid volunteer—coaching youth soccer, mentoring, and supporting church and Boy Scout activities. His passions included Rock ‘n’ Roll music, classic cars and planes, wooden boats, vintage automotive signs and gas pumps, and all things fast. Ross also enjoyed target shooting with his family, conversing over southern food and sweet treats, and making his signature margaritas for gatherings amongst friends. He particularly delighted in watching his grandsons at play.

One of his great joys was driving his prized blue 1947 Ford Panel Truck to the annual Daytona Turkey Run, where his “Weeks Bros Car Corral” became a Thanksgiving tradition for the family and many other beloved friends. He also carried a special fondness of his Midnight Blue 1965 Mustang Fastback he and Kathy drove in their youth and instilled his passions for cars with his sons, working on countless projects in the driveway and building model cars in the evenings even after working double shifts.

Ross is also survived by his brothers Wallace Weeks and Ronald Weeks (Peggy), along with many beloved nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews near and far. His presence was larger than life, his hugs unforgettable, and his legacy enduring. He was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed. Ross leaves behind a legacy of service, laughter, and love.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 23 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel at Beach Church. Reception to follow.
