Obituary

Thomas “Tom” Steele Waltimire, 73, passed away on November 4, 2025, in Jacksonville, Florida.

Born on June 7, 1952, in Elmira, New York, Thomas—known to many as Tom—lived a life marked by curiosity, conversation, and connection. He began his professional journey at Flickinger’s in Elmira, where he built a career as a meat and seafood buyer. His natural charisma and ease with people later led him into car sales and eventually to his final role as a salesman at W&D Liquor Store. No matter the job title, Tom was always a salesman at heart—he loved talking to people and sharing stories from his childhood, family life, work experiences, and travels.

Tom had a wide range of interests that reflected his dynamic personality. He studied martial arts and proudly earned a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, Washin-Ryu, and Hapkido. He was an avid motorcyclist who found joy on the open road. A passionate collector of watches and an enthusiastic golfer, Tom also spent countless hours researching his family tree—a pursuit that combined his love for history with his deep appreciation for family connections.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 22 years, Sendy (Huckaby) Waltimire; son Jeremy Waltimire of Elmira Heights, NY; daughter Jennifer Starkweather (Larry) of Milton, PA; daughter Jessica Waltimire (Tyler) of Florida; and son Brian Waltimire of Yulee, FL. Tom was also a proud grandfather to Mitchell (Jessica) Rockwell of Horseheads, NY; Sage Barto (Jay) of Lewisburg, PA; Colby Barto (Rei) of York, PA; Jacob Brooks, Dylan Brooks, and Natalie Brooks—all of Deltona, FL; Dominick Waltimire, and Atticus Waltimire of Elmira Heights, NY; and Logan Steele Barto of Montgomery, PA.

He is also remembered by his sister Marilyn Lear of Horseheads, NY; brother Lynn Waltimire of Elmira, NY; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Tom was preceded in death by his father Roy Stephens Waltimire; mother Mary Elizabeth (Lynn) Waltimire; sister Carol Garret; and brother Charles "Charlie" Waltimire.

In accordance with Tom’s wishes, no services will be held following his passing.

May the memory of Thomas Steele Waltimire bring comfort to all who knew him.
