William Barry Shuman, 60, of Fernandina Beach, Florida, passed away September 2, 2026, surrounded by his family. Known for his quick wit and easy sense of humor, Barry never met a stranger and always found a way to connect with anyone he met and will be deeply missed.

Barry was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry Shuman and Nancy Shuman. He is survived by his wife, Laura Shuman; his son, Evan Shuman; daughter-in-law, Bailey Shuman; stepmother, Gail Shuman; sisters, Jennifer Shuman Spivey and Julie Shuman Lambdin; and stepbrother, Ryan Burkett; along with many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Born on October 19, 1965, in Savannah, Ga, Barry graduated from Windsor Forest High School in 1984. He fell in love with golf at a young age, and that love soon became his lifelong career. He got his start at Lavida Country Club in Savannah, Ga., in 1987, a path that led him to Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC), where he earned a degree in Environmental Horticulture. From there, he built a career as an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent and Golf Course Superintendent across Georgia, South Carolina, and finally Florida and was a lifelong member of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America.

Golf wasn't his only passion — Barry also enjoyed hunting around Pembroke, Georgia, and fishing in the Amelia River and was always happiest outdoors and spending time with his family and friends. However, his greatest joy was being a father to Evan. From the time Evan was young, Barry taught him about the woods and the water, and the two spent countless hours together hunting and fishing — time that became the heart of their relationship.

Barry was deeply loved and leaves behind a legacy of warmth, humor, and love for the outdoors that will live on in everyone who had the good fortune to know him.
