Howard Philip Muzik was born in 1939 in Chicago, Illinois to Ruth and Joseph Muzik. Howard was predeceased by his parents and his brother Glenn Muzik. He grew up in Elmwood Park, Illinois, graduating from Steinmetz High School. Howard earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business from North Park University, Chicago. While in high school and college, Howard served in the Reserves at Naval Air Station Glenview, Illinois.
He met his wife, Pauline, in the summer of 1966, while on leave in Chicago. Howard and Pauline married June 1967 and moved to Jacksonville, Florida.
From 1962-1969, Howard served as an Intelligence Officer in the US Navy. He proudly served in Vietnam as a Combat Briefing Officer on the USS Kitty Hawk. Following his military service, Howard became a Special Agent with the FBI in 1969 until he retired in 1994, serving 25 years with the Bureau. After his retirement, Howard continued working for the Bureau as a background investigator for many years.
Howard had a long history of devotion to the Boy Scouts of America – as a scout earning the Eagle Scout Award, and into adulthood as a Troop Leader and loyal supporter. He was a dedicated member of Christ United Methodist Church for 34 years, where he served in various roles including Trustee Chairman.
Howard loved his family first. Howard and Pauline raised three children together: Lisa, Philip, and Patti. His family was his pride and joy - wife, children, and grandchildren. He was the family’s #1 fan and biggest supporter whether it be sporting events, plays, concerts, or band performances. Howard, with his wife Pauline, traveled the world – often with close friends. Impressively, Howard’s passion for photography transformed world travels, family gatherings, and sporting events into remarkable memories of people, places, flowers, and landscapes.
Howard—Dad—Pop Pop will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him and sharing in his rich stories about life experiences. Howard is survived by his beautiful wife of fifty-six years, Pauline; his children, Lisa Mincey (David), Philip Muzik (Kristin), Patti Heilmann (Pat); and his eight grandchildren: Aiden, Madison, Gage, Zac, Genevieve, Abbi, Victoria, and Sullivan.
Celebration of life for Howard will be at 4pm on May 18, 2023 at Christ United Methodist Church, Neptune Beach, Florida 32266. Internment Jacksonville National Cemetery.
